I know this because I did the wrong version first. I promoted someone at Flirt because she was loyal and I trusted her, not because I had taught her how to lead. It cost me doing her job with her. Instead of bringing me solutions, she brought me problems, and we solved every one of them together. I’d be on my evening walk, finally done for the day, and my phone would go off with her texts and calls, right when she was just getting going and I was trying to put it down.

When I finally hired & trained a manager the right way, everything changed. Flirt ran at $100,000 to $150,000 a month while I traveled or was on maternity leave. The team performed when I was not in the building. In 2023 I sold it for seven figures. Not because I was the best esthetician in the room. Because I stopped being the only leader in it.
